Rev. Abraham Mathew

Rev. Abraham Mathew grew-up and studied in the hometown of Seethathodu, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala. He completed his Bachelor's of Theology (B.Th.) at Hindustan Bible Institute, Madras. He also holds a Bachelor's of Divinity (B.D.) from Leonard Theological College in Jabalpur. The Right Reverend Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus ordained Reverend Mathew as a priest in 1991.

Achen trained himself to be a theological educator. His life passions include the mentoring of young lives and the encouragement of God's people. His devotion to Christ began as a field missionary in Santhi Mandiram, Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Later on, while living in Jhansi, he served as the director of the Marthoma Gram Jyoti schools, working closely with the villagers of Madhya Pradesh. Reverend Mathew provided free basic education which has since spread to eleven states. Today his work in the remote village is apparent at the high school level. In Gram Jyoti, Reverend Mathew also served as the Vicar of the Jhansi Marthoma Church, which falls under the Bombay-Delhi diocese.

Before his arrival to Philadelphia, Achen served as Vicar in a number of parishes including:

• St. Thomas MTC, Puliyoor, Chengannur
• Pandinaekkaram MTC, Thalavadi
• Karrikuzhi MTC, Neerattupuram
• Salem MTC, Narakathany
• St. Paul's MTC, Karthamangal, Valakuzhy

Reverend Mathew is supported by his wife Gracykutty (Sudha) Abraham. Kochamma is a Godly woman who is actively involved in bible studies, teaching and counseling. She is a joyous witness for the Lord and her presence at STMTC will surely encourage spiritual growth among its members. Achen and Kochamma have two very talented children: Sachin and Sharon Abraham who are in 11th and 9th grades respectively at Great Valley High School. Both children enjoy dancing, singing and sharing their faith with their peers. Like most Achens families that relocate every three years, the two youngsters have assimilated to the pressures of relocation. Achen will help us in continuing our commitment to our church as well as inspiring our youth in their faith. Please welcome our new Achen, Rev. Mathew and his family and pray that their goals for St. Thomas Marthoma Church will be met in Jesus name.
